Wisdom Reeth Removal in Toronto, ON

Wisdom teeth do not always need to be removed, but their position can create problems when there is not enough room for them to develop properly. Impacted or misaligned wisdom teeth can contribute to pain, infection, cysts, crowding, gum disease, cavities, or damage to surrounding teeth and bone. An examination and X-rays can help you identify these problems and determine whether removal is appropriate.

01.

Process

  • Complete your emergency exam: Your dentist evaluates your symptoms and oral health to determine whether your wisdom teeth may be causing your dental problem.
  • Take digital X-rays: Imaging allows your dentist to assess the position of your wisdom teeth, including teeth that have not fully erupted or are impacted beneath your gums or jawbone.
  • Review your treatment plan: Your dentist explains the findings and determines whether wisdom teeth removal is appropriate based on their position and the complexity of your case.
  • Prepare for your procedure: Local anesthesia is used during removal, and sedation is available when appropriate to help you feel more comfortable.
  • Remove your wisdom tooth: Your dentist accesses it and carefully removes it. An impacted tooth may require an incision, and in some cases, the tooth may be divided into smaller pieces for easier removal.

Next Steps

  • Control bleeding: Bite gently but firmly on the gauze provided for about 30 minutes. Replace it and continue applying pressure if bleeding persists.
  • Manage discomfort: Use prescribed or recommended pain medication as directed and apply ice packs to the outside of your face to help with pain and swelling.
  • Choose soft foods: Stick with soft or liquid foods such as yogurt, pudding, soup, and applesauce during the first few days.
  • Keep the area clean: Beginning the next morning, gently rinse with warm salt water according to the instructions you receive.
  • Monitor your recovery: Contact EmergDENT for a re-examination if your pain, discomfort, or bleeding persists or worsens.
